Week 11 Outside of Class

Natalie and John: Outside of class

After mapping out some wireframes on Thursday the team sketched out some of the ideas that were researched in class and incorporated them into the wireframes. Here are some of the sketches:

Summer, Bryce and Alina: Outside of class

After discussing as a class we found that we are sort of just waiting for the rest of the pieces of information from the other teams before we move forward with the mobile app. So instead of focusing on the design aspect right now we are continuing to research different avenues for the idea of the game because a lot of them out there are based around the same subject. We also want to base at least the characters off of the comic book that the print team is working on. What we do know about the app is we are going to show it both on a phone and a tablet due to the audience being low income young children.

Week 11

Natalie & John: Tuesday

Natalie -
Today in class, John and I were responsible for finding inspiration for our website design.

John recommended we add a section for "Our Team." An example was Dropbox's Layout:

Videos of Bee Animations

We were looking at videos of bees to possibly animate bees flying on the website. Here's some videos we found:

1) https://vimeo.com/44228708 - Bee - 3d animated short
  • Beautifully animated. If we could replicate something like this, it would be out of this world.
2) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WLl75zlCqI - Bee 3D Animation

3) https://vimeo.com/93239025 - GREENPEACE - NEW BEES
4) https://vimeo.com/13497863 - Sherwin Williams - Bees
5) https://vimeo.com/41749644 - Save The Bees
6) https://vimeo.com/39248822 - How Bees Make Honey

7) https://vimeo.com/28634532 - Save The Bees - City Limits

Mobile App Design

  • Interactive game.
    • We want to design a game that is visually appealing, fun and interactive that will educate children about bees. How will our mobile app game differ from other games that already exist?
    • We need to brainstorm some ideas then create a brand matrix chart, then look at its usability and interface, then work with the print team for a style and then begin sketches and wireframes.
  • Interactive storybook.
    • We want to create a storybook that is interactive as you read. When you get to a certain part of the story we want to have them play a mini game about what they just read. We also want the illustrations to have some motion to them. Of course not every child is at the same reading level so we would want to include reading guides and different levels of reading.
    • We would need the content team to write the story, the print team to illustrate it, and then our team to create the motion and mobile app. We need to brainstorm some ideas, brand matrix, story script, sketches, wireframes and finalize it.

Mobile App Design Research

There are a lot of bee games that already exist; however, there are only a few that are actually about saving the bees. Here are the top 3 that were found. We want to design a game that is visually appealing, fun and interactive that will educate children about bees. Each of these games are different from one another. The one game is about pollination and herbicides. The other game is about collecting pollen and avoiding other creatures that can kill a bee like spiders, etc. The other game is about bee gardens and the bees anatomy. How can we make our game different from theirs?

We also researched to see if there are any storybooks about bees that is also interactive and we only found one. It is very basic with information and includes some interactive games while the story continues. We want to create a storybook that is interactive as you read. When you get to a certain part of the story we want to have them play a mini game about what they just read. We also want the illustrations to have some motion to them. Of course not every child is at the same reading level so we would want to include reading guides and different levels of reading.
